The picturesque city of Salzburg is located at the river Salzach in the heart of the basin of Salzburg. The emblem of the city is the fort Hohensalzburg of the 11th century – it is amongst the largest castles in Europe. The byname “city of Mozart” dates back to the famous composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart who was born there in 1756.Since 1996 the historical old town belongs to the UNESCO world cultural heritage.
